Job Description: The Lead Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Franklin, WI will implement holistic solutions utilizing working relationships across the enterprise. Design, organize, and execute high impact solutions across teams both within and outside their division. Establish, aggregate, and share enterprise standards and best practices. Design and deliver technology solutions using micro-service architecture, service-oriented architecture, asynchronous data processing, and eventual consistency patterns. Ensure production stability, monitoring, and root cause analysis is executed for their products. Create product and platform roadmaps and strategies for various software implementations. Create and build architectural runways and technical solutions for business problems. Lead team using modern engineering tools, languages, and practices, including Java, Spring, and Hibernate, Relational Databases (RDBMS) including Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, and MySQL, middleware packages including MQ (IBM MQ, ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ), Kafka, Unit Testing, and Integration Testing, and Continuous Integration tools including Jenkins, UrbanCode, and Gitlab CI. Manage, prioritize, and prune a backlog of work items and help the team align the deliverables with the enterprise objectives. Develop and lead solution delivery using agile methods. Focus on maintaining and supporting technical development environments (non-prod) and deployed technical solutions (production). Manage direct reports with task assignments, periodic checkpoints and feedback cycle. Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week. Salary $123,480- $252,200 per year.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field plus 6 years of experience as a software engineer or in a related occupation. Experience must include 5 years with each of the following: (1) leading teams using modern engineering tools, languages, and practices, including Java, Spring, and Hibernate; (2) Relational Databases (RDBMS) including Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, and MySQL; (3) middleware packages including MQ (IBM MQ, ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ), Kafka, Unit Testing, and Integration Testing; (4) Continuous Integration tools including Jenkins, UrbanCode, and Gitlab CI; (5) designing and delivering technology solutions using micro-service architecture, service-oriented architecture, asynchronous data processing, and eventual consistency patterns; (6) developing and leading solution delivery using agile methods; (7) java, spring, and web services; and (8) explaining and communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
