Job Summary
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer I you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of our company's infrastructure and services. Your primary focus will be on building and maintaining scalable systems that can handle high traffic loads and minimize downtime. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in software development, system administration, and a strong passion for automating tasks and improving system reliability.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • System Reliability: Design, implement, and maintain robust, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems to ensure high availability of services and applications.
  • Incident Management: Participate in incident response and resolution, ensuring that critical issues are addressed promptly and effectively to minimize impact on users.
  • Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitor the system's performance and implement proactive measures to optimize performance and prevent potential bottlenecks.
  • Automation: Develop and enhance automated tools, scripts, and processes to improve the efficiency and reliability of deployment, configuration management, and monitoring.
  • Scalability and Capacity Planning: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and implement infrastructure upgrades and scale resources to meet growing demands.
  • Disaster Recovery: Design and implement disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity in the event of system failures or disasters.
  • Security: Implement security best practices and ensure that the infrastructure and applications meet security standards and compliance requirements.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with software development teams to promote best practices for reliability and provide guidance on designing resilient applications.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation of the system architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Mentoring and Leadership: Guide and mentor junior SREs and help build a culture of reliability within the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Travel Requirements: Less than 25%

Education
Minimum/Preferred Education Description
Minimum 4 Year / Bachelors Degree Computer Science, Engineering or other technical field, or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Certification Cloud certification with Azure or AWS preferred

Experience
Minimum Years of Experience Description
5 Years of relevant experience in site reliability engineering, system administration, or software engineering in a large-scale production environment.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Technical Expertise: Strong proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java) and experience with shell scripting. In-depth knowledge of Linux/UNIX operating systems and networking concepts.
  • Cloud Technologies: Proficiency in managing and scaling applications in cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Automation Tools: Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef) and infrastructure-as-code frameworks (e.g., Terraform).
  • Monitoring and Logging: Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios) and logging solutions (e.g., ELK stack, Splunk).
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve complex system issues.
  • Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Continuous Improvement: A passion for continuous learning and staying updated with the latest technologies and industry trends in site reliability engineering.

  • Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Able to sit/ stand for a long period of time in an office environment
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, tools, and to handle other computer components
  • Regular and predictable attendance required.
  • Positive attitude, team player, good interpersonal communication skills and able to work across company departments.
