We’re seeking a future team member for the role of VP, Data Scientist to join our Business Intelligence team. This role is located in Uniondale, NY- HYBRID/ FLEX Or alternative NYC – HYBRID / FLEX

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

  • Independently conducts advanced, complex analyses of internal and external client or industry data sources and leads the development of statistical models and/or machine learning algorithms for analyzing and predicting client behavior, securities performance, risk or economic data. Able to independently gather requirements, provide leadership to devise analytical solution and execute implementation of assigned task.
  • Conducts metric analysis, leads data modeling and uses technology applications, applying techniques such as SQL querying and automated data workflow development to extract, blend and standardize numerous data sources for populating models. Programs or system configuration in order set up sophisticated models or algorithms. Expected familiarity with applied machine learning techniques and numerous machine learning algorithms, including classification and regression algorithms, market basket analysis, etc. for client segmentation purposes, tactical opportunity analysis and sales strategy enhancements.
  • Formulates findings, prepares reports, including development of dashboards and visualizations to delivers results to management and sales staff. Provides recommendations for addressing observed outcomes. Translates complex technical concepts and analyses to non-technical audiences.
  • Serves as a resource to colleagues unfamiliar with specialised process or data sets. Stays abreast of latest data science and analytics technologies, and market trends. Partners with management to evaluate and select the most appropriate technologies.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

  • Advanced degree in data science or quantitative / STEM field required, PHD preferred. 3+ years’ experience preferred in data science, or quantitative field (inclusive of PHD work). Experience with Financial, particularly Investment management data a plus.
  • Clear, concise and effective communication skillset, able to explain the results of a complex analysis to a non-technical audience.
  • Experience with a data workflow / ETL development tool like Alteryx, Dataiku, etc. Experience with a dashboard / visualization development tool (Tableau, Power BI, or D3.JS, etc.). Experience with data science / machine learning algorithms and tools (R, Python, or other development tools) required.
  • Provides work guidance to less experienced colleagues, but no direct reports initially. Opportunity for advancement and expected to lead analytical projects of highly complex scope.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $108,700 and $175,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.


This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Salary108,700.00 - 175,000.00 Annual
